Community Development

We understand that participation in the planning and organisation of leisure projects and associated clubs and groups can have an important Community Development role over and above the benefit to local leisure opportunities.

Leisure projects bring people together. They often provide a focus for life in a community and they offer an opportunity for a wide range of people to share in a mutually enjoyable activity.

Support for leisure initiatives at a community level helps to ensure that residents have increased access to local opportunities and on many occasions this encourages the community to work more closely together and become more self-confident. This, in turn, can help local people to become more self-supporting in other areas of community activity.

We have a thorough understanding of such issues and will ensure that the wider Community Development role of leisure is highlighted in the process of its strategy development.
