Liveability
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister's Urban Policy Unit is committed to "a high quality of life for all in our towns and cities". So are we!
Liveability is about bringing all those aspects of a place which make people happy to live and work there together. The Government use the term when linking polices in The Departments for Transport, Health and Environment, The Home Office and of course the treasury.
Somewhere liveable will among other things:
- Have clean, attractive public places, including parks, play areas and green spaces
- Be safe from crime and the fear of crime
- Easy to get around by foot or bike
- Have a full range of accessible services
- We believe that the vision of liveable sustainable communities should strongly influence the aims of the full range of strategies that authorities have to prepare.
All the work we produce will be informed by our belief in promoting liveability and it's cross-cutting significance.
We have and continue to participate in the ongoing research and national debate around liveability and policies to promote it.
